Akindele Earns Second Career Mines Student-Athlete Of The Week Honor

GOLDEN – In helping the No. 22 Colorado School of Mines men’s soccer team to a 1-1 record over the weekend, senior All-American Tesho Akindele has been named this week’s Mines Student-Athlete of the Week, athletic department officials announced Monday.

A Thornton native, Akindele led Mines with six points last week, scoring one goal at both Colorado Mesa and Metro State, while adding two assists against the Roadrunners on Sunday in Denver.

The NCAA all-division active career leader in goals (70) and points (171), Akindele moved into a tie for 19th in the Division II record book in the respective categories with his four-point effort Sunday.

Akindele currently leads the RMAC in shots (68), goals (13), points (33), assists (7) and game-winners (4), and is one assist shy of tying Jared Peacock (32; 2000-03) for the program record with 31.

He already owns the Mines career records for goals, points, shots (207), shots on goal (151) and game-winning goals (18).

This is the second career Mines Student-Athlete of the Week award for the Electrical Engineering major.
