Wannamaker Earns Second Mines Student-Athlete Of The Week Honor
In leading the No. 12 Colorado School of Mines volleyball team
to a 2-0 record, including a 3-0 win over UC-Colorado Springs on
Saturday to clinch the program's first RMAC Championship,
junior Melanie Wannamaker has been named
this week's Mines Student-Athlete of the Week, athletic department
officials announced Monday.
A Kingwood, Texas, product, Wannamaker led the Oredigger
offensive and defensive efforts in Mines’ 2-0 week last week
with a team-high 30 kills at a rate of 5.00 kills per set on a .491
attack percentage, while adding seven blocks at an average of 1.17
per set during the week.
She opened with 16 kills on a .483 attack percentage while adding
four blocks defensively in Mines’ 3-0 win over Colorado
Christian on Tuesday help the squad claim at least a share of the
program’s first-ever RMAC Championship.
She added 14 kills on a .500 attack percentage in addition to five
blocks in Mines’ 3-0 win over UC-Colorado Springs on Friday
to help the team claim the RMAC Title in outright fashion. She
finished the regular season as the RMAC leader in attack percentage
with a mark of .388.
This is the second Mines Student-Athlete of the Week award for
Wannamaker this season.
