Wannamaker Earns Second Mines Student-Athlete Of The Week Honor

In leading the No. 12 Colorado School of Mines volleyball team to a 2-0 record, including a 3-0 win over UC-Colorado Springs on Saturday to clinch the program's first RMAC Championship, junior Melanie Wannamaker has been named this week's Mines Student-Athlete of the Week, athletic department officials announced Monday.

A Kingwood, Texas, product, Wannamaker led the Oredigger offensive and defensive efforts in Mines’ 2-0 week last week with a team-high 30 kills at a rate of 5.00 kills per set on a .491 attack percentage, while adding seven blocks at an average of 1.17 per set during the week.

She opened with 16 kills on a .483 attack percentage while adding four blocks defensively in Mines’ 3-0 win over Colorado Christian on Tuesday help the squad claim at least a share of the program’s first-ever RMAC Championship.

She added 14 kills on a .500 attack percentage in addition to five blocks in Mines’ 3-0 win over UC-Colorado Springs on Friday to help the team claim the RMAC Title in outright fashion. She finished the regular season as the RMAC leader in attack percentage with a mark of .388.

This is the second Mines Student-Athlete of the Week award for Wannamaker this season.
