Record-Breaking Jump Earns Student-Athlete Of The Week Honor For Ogunmodede
GOLDEN – Following the sixth-highest jump
in all of Division II over the weekend, junior Seun
Ogunmodede of the Mines men’s indoor track
& field team has been named this week’s Mines
Student-Athlete of the Week, athletic department officials
announced Monday.
A Castle Rock native and Mechanical Engineering major, Ogunmodede
set a new program record in the high jump at the Potts Indoor
Invitational on Friday with a jump of 6-11, which eclipsed the
previous school record of 6-10 set by George Buck
in 1985 and later matched by Jay Wordew.
Ogunmodede later attempted and nearly cleared 7-1, but the
crossbar fell off after wobbling on the stanchions for a few
seconds.
Ogunmodede tied with Mark Jones of Colorado for
first in the event out of nine participants, and the jump is
currently the sixth-highest mark in Division II, as well as tops in
the RMAC this season.
The two-sport athlete (men’s soccer) now holds three of the
top six jumps in program history.
He added to his record-breaking weekend with a second-place finish
in the triple jump on Saturday with a leap of 45-3.75.
